Erol Black could never live up to his twin brother, Earh. Earh was intelligent beyond any reason, and their parents adored him. Naturally, Erol was his polar opposite - impulsive, a rebel, and not too concerned with his academics. Try as they might, the twins' parents could never get their wayward son on the same path as their angel. They had all but given up on him, and instead flooded Earh with virtually all of their undying affection. They bought him anything he wanted, sent him to an exclusive all-boy boarding school in upstate New York, and gave him all of their love. Erol was the outcast.

On one particular weekly visit to Earh's school, Erol waits in the school gardens...as usual. However, unlike the usual boring visits, Erol meets a strange girl in the garden. Upon questioning, Earh explains that the girl is the headmaster's daughter and that Erol needs to stay away from her.

But Erol doesn't listen.

The more he meets with the quiet girl the more he falls in love with her and the mysteries of the school begin to unfold in front of his eyes. He begins to risk everything to save her, to try to take her away from a place that is manipulative and not what it seems.

EROL BLACK. 18. Erol would like most people to believe that he isn't as smart as his brother. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Their parents noticed at an early age that they both were obviously at a higher academic level than the children their age. When they were 12, they were sent to take then entrance exam at Hollingsworth Academy, and Erol flunked on purpose. His reason was unknown, but after that his grades plummeted and he became distant and preoccupied with other things. He doesn't have many interests, he just wants to finish school and leave his hometown to find better things to do with himself.

EARH BLACK. 18. Unlike his brother, Earh takes his academics very seriously. He enjoys school, and enjoys attending Hollingsworth Academy. This is his final year at the school, and he is looking into go into genetic studies at a private university. Despite their differences, Earh considers his brother his best friend. However, at times he can get a little jealous of his brother's social skills. Even at an academy where there are students just like him, he doesn't have many friends. The other students find him intense, too involved and obsessed with his grades.

ADELINE (addy, dell) MOSS. 17. Adeline is the headmaster's daughter, and she lives with him at a relatively large house attached to the student dormitories. She doesn't interact with the students, and it is an unwritten rule that the students leave her alone. No one really knows much about her, aside from the fact that she used to live with her mother in California, and recently her mother passed. She is privately tutored in the house, the the only time she leaves is to tend to the rose gardens behind the school. The flowers are her passion and she is often seen just wandering through the garden, sitting under the shade reading, and taking care of the flowers.

HEADMASTER JAMES MOSS. 62. James is Adeline's father and the headmaster at the academy. Since she showed up, he has been incredibly over protective of her, and tries his best to keep her away from the male students. He is constantly watching her, and the only time he leaves her alone is when she tends to the gardens. As far as his disciplinary actions, he has a strict hand over the students and most of them don't like him. He has a few favorites, one of them being Earh Black.

MR & MRS BLACK. 44 & 42 respectively.

BRIGHT-ANNE MONTGOMERY. 18. Bright-Anne is often just called Anne by most people. She is Erol's on-again, off-again girlfriend, and their relationship is nothing short of tumultuous. She also attends the same reform school as Erol, and for obvious reasons. She is extremely volatile and prone to intense mood swings without little to no warning. She is also a little bit of a nymphomaniac, which more often than not leads to the couple being 'off-again.' As well as all those charming traits, Bright-Anne is a manipulative bitch, and she takes advantage of the fact that she is an orphan to get what she wants.

MITCHELL ADAMS. 17. Mitchell is Earh's only friend at the academy. The two were paired up one day in an advanced physics class and the rest is history. He isn't as shy as Earh is, and is pretty popular with the girls at the all-girls' school down the road from Hollingsworth Academy. He gets good enough grades, but his family - unlike Earh's - is incredibly wealthy so he doesn't really care much about being there. He has offered to pay off Earh's outstanding tuition bill, however Earh's parents don't want to accept any handouts.

TRUMAN BANKS. 32. Mr. Banks is Earh's mentor. He is one of few full time teachers that actually lives on campus, and he also works as the RA in Earh's dormitory. Naturally, he teaches genetics and was an inspiration for Earh at an early age to go into genetics. He seems to be close with the headmaster, and is one of the only staff members who interacts with Adeline as her private tutor. Truman also seems to have a special connection with her, but doesn't speak to anyone about her.
